Approved Welfare Protocol for Federal Police Dogs
The National Security Ministry approved the 'Animal Welfare Protocol for Dogs belonging to the Federal Police and Security Forces of the Argentine Republic' through Resolution 709/2026, published in the Official Gazette. This protocol unifies criteria for the care, training, and monitoring of dogs in operational functions. The National Directorate of Planning and Management of Professional Support Animals will be responsible for issuing complementary regulations for its implementation. The measure incorporates scientific criteria on animal welfare and aims to regulate the conditions of dogs in federal forces. It is established that the objective is to ensure adequate welfare conditions throughout all stages of the operational life of the dogs. The protocol includes mechanisms for periodic evaluation of the physical, health, and behavioral status of the animals, as well as individual controls and kennel inspections. The resolution will come into effect the day after its publication and is part of the National Security Ministry's policies to strengthen animal welfare standards.
