Boundless expands 4,000-GPU network to support AI workloads

Boundless is expanding its distributed GPU network, originally focused on zero-knowledge proofs on Bitcoin, to support artificial intelligence inference workloads. The network, which consists of approximately 4,000 GPUs, has been optimized for AI tasks, including hardware tuning and workload adaptation. CEO Shiv Shankar stated that the company built a network for coordinating distributed GPU capacity, which is now needed at a larger scale for AI. The network initially served as a coordination layer between Ethereum and Bitcoin. Boundless will continue to operate its zero-knowledge proving network in parallel and plans to require AI operators to stake its native token, ZKC, to join the network, linking stake size to earning potential. Early benchmarks indicate that inference costs are up to 50% lower than major cloud providers, particularly for asynchronous workloads, by utilizing lower-cost capacity from consumer-grade GPUs and hardware from crypto mining. Shankar emphasized that Boundless aims to address constraints in production inference related to cost, capacity, and reliability.
