CoinGecko: Crypto hacks stole 3630000000 dollars from 245 incidents since 2025
CoinGecko analyzed 245 security incidents at crypto platforms from January 2025 to July 2026, revealing that 3630000000 dollars was stolen. Over 72.5% of total losses originated from the 10 largest attacks, with infrastructure and supply-chain vulnerabilities alone exceeding 1800000000 dollars. Among centralized exchanges, private key compromise was the most prevalent vulnerability. In decentralized applications (dApps), smart contract attacks resulted in losses of 546000000 dollars. Additional losses were attributed to oracle and market manipulation or internal mechanism failures, with Bitget, Binance, and Hyperliquid cited as examples. CoinGecko noted that 147 incidents occurred at platforms that had undergone external security audits, accounting for 88.44% of the total amount stolen. Many attacks on audited platforms took place in areas outside the typical audit scope, including external infrastructure and post-audit code additions. Incidents caused by smart contract flaws within the audit scope represented about 11%, with related losses totaling 396000000 dollars.
