Google Patches High-Severity Chrome Flaw CVE-2026-85046
Google has patched a high-severity flaw in Chrome, CVE-2026-85046, after discovering that attackers were already exploiting it. The bug affects V8, which Chrome uses for JavaScript and WebAssembly. Google has not disclosed the identities of the attackers or their victims. The patch is included in Chrome versions 152.0.7977.82 and 152.0.7977.83 for Windows and Mac, and version 152.0.7977.82 for Linux, with updates rolling out over the coming days and weeks. CVE-2026-85046 is a type-confusion bug that may cause memory errors, but Google has not confirmed if it can execute code remotely. Security researcher Salvatore Gulizia reported the flaw on August 4 and received a $1,000 bug bounty. The update includes nine high-severity and two medium-severity fixes, with some details withheld until most users have installed the patches. Google has not linked CVE-2026-85046 to attacks on crypto users, although browser wallets and exchange accounts have been targeted through other methods. Previous incidents include a malicious Chrome extension that added hidden SOL transfers and malware disguised as a game that drained over 14000 dollars from browser-connected wallets.
