Tencent Executive Says Insufficient Computing Power Slows Down Development of Hunyuan Model
Tencent Group's Senior Executive Vice President Tang Daosheng responded to the company's slow progress in the AI field, admitting internal anxiety and pointing out that overall computing power is "seriously insufficient," which affects the training of the Hunyuan model and product development. He believes that we are currently only at the starting stage of the AI marathon, emphasizing that "lasting longer is more important than starting early." Tang Daosheng previewed that the next generation of Hunyuan, Hy4, will have more breakthroughs, stating that Tencent cannot rely solely on basic models and highlighting the importance of algorithms and engineering. He pointed out that real scenarios such as WeChat-based office work, documents, meetings, and enterprise services are Tencent's advantages. Tang Daosheng also reviewed several missteps, mentioning that too much promotion was invested in Yuanbao for user growth, but at that time, "both the model and the product were not ready," resulting in poor outcomes. The success of CodeBuddy and WorkBuddy was not planned in advance, and early DevTools suffered significant losses. WorkBuddy later seized the wave of Agents, iterating over 40 versions in three months, with the team extensively using AI to write code. In the future, the boundaries of products, development, and testing will become increasingly blurred, allowing small teams to accomplish the work that previously required large teams with the help of AI.
