Trump's New Tariffs and Rising Oil Prices Impact Global Markets
Last week, decisions made by Donald Trump, including military threats against Iran and the announcement of new tariffs, affected global markets. Trump's threats led to an increase in Brent oil prices above $100, raising concerns about inflation. Reports regarding Trump's order to halt attacks on Iran alleviated some of these worries. Trump also announced new tariffs on imports from 60 countries, including China and the European Union, which may increase production costs and delay the Federal Reserve's interest rate cuts. Additionally, heavier tariffs were imposed on Canadian goods, raising concerns about a new trade war. New restrictions on the use of Chinese raw materials also heightened the likelihood of increased production costs and shortages of minerals. Furthermore, the new tariff plan for aluminum allows companies to receive discounts only if they invest in domestic production in the U.S. These decisions once again brought oil, tariffs, and inflation to the forefront of market attention.
