US Stock Market Warns of Increased Volatility Near All-Time Highs
The US stock market is maintaining its position near all-time highs, but analyses suggest that its internal strength has weakened. Concerns about additional fluctuations arise due to seasonal volatility in September, rising treasury yields, and pressure from oil prices. The CIO of NewEdge Wealth explained that September is typically a month of high volatility and low returns, noting that the breadth of advancing stocks in the current market has diminished. The percentage of stocks above the 50-day moving average has decreased from 70% in early August to 47% now. Rising interest rates are acting as a factor pressuring stock market valuations, with warnings that if the 10-year treasury yield reaches 4.81%, it could exceed 5%. Strong corporate earnings have been identified as a reason for the stock market's upward trend, but if interest rates continue to rise, it could exert downward pressure on valuations. Oil prices and inflation are also significant variables influencing the Federal Reserve's interest rate decisions, and the likelihood of a rate hike in September appears to be heavily dependent on the consumer price index.
