Cryptography is the practice and study of techniques used to secure communication, protect data, and prevent unauthorized access. In the context of blockchain and cryptocurrencies, cryptography is the backbone technology that ensures security and privacy. The two main types of cryptography used in blockchain are asymmetric-key cryptography and hash functions. Asymmetric-key cryptography uses a pair of keys—public and private—allowing users to send and receive cryptocurrencies securely. The private key remains confidential and is required to access one's funds, while the public key serves as the wallet address for receiving transactions. Cryptography is essential for securing transactions on the blockchain and ensuring that data stored on the distributed ledger is tamper-proof and immutable.
