Javier Milei's participation in the launch of Flávio Bolsonaro's presidential candidacy provoked a strong reaction from the Workers' Party (PT), the political force of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In a statement signed by its president, Edinho Silva, the party described the expressions of the Argentine head of state as "unacceptable" and accused him of disrespecting the authorities and institutions of Brazil.

"Brazil is a democratic and sovereign country. Our democracy allows for the debate of ideas, in which contradictory positions can and should fuel discussions about the future of the country," the document began, released after the event held in São Paulo.

The PT clarified that no Brazilian authority is exempt from questioning, but emphasized that these should be made "in the appropriate manner and at the right time". "It is unacceptable for a foreign head of state to come to our country and address its constituted powers in disrespectful terms," it stated.

Milei delivered a speech alongside Flávio Bolsonaro.

Edinho Silva deepened the criticisms and stated that Milei's behavior was not surprising. "There have been many recent situations where he has shown he is not up to the position he occupies," he expressed.

"The current occupant of the Casa Rosada would have made better use of his time and the resources of Argentine taxpayers if he had taken the day to work and solve the problems of his country," he added. Despite the confrontation, he concluded the statement by noting that Argentina is a friendly nation with "an exceptional people."

Javier Milei labeled Lula da Silva as a "thief" and supported Flávio Bolsonaro's candidacy.

The response came after Milei participated in the Liberal Party convention that officially nominated Flávio Bolsonaro as a candidate for the presidential elections in October.

During his speech, the President again called Lula a "thief and prisoner" and warned that, just as there is a so-called "Kuka risk" in Argentina, Brazil currently faces a supposed "Lula risk."

Milei also stated that Flávio Bolsonaro is "the person who can stop Lula" and lead a political change. Additionally, he questioned Supreme Federal Court judge Alexandre de Moraes, who rejected his request to visit former president Jair Bolsonaro, currently under house arrest.

Meanwhile, Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that it denied visas to two officials from the U.S. State Department who intended to travel to the country before the presidential elections in October.

The officials are Riley M. Barnes, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor, and Samuel Samson, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State. The decision was made on Friday, before Milei's arrival in São Paulo.

The envoys sought to hold meetings with electoral authorities to discuss issues related to freedom of expression and the functioning of the voting system. However, the Brazilian government considered that the mission deviated from traditional international electoral observation delegations.

The request raised concerns because it occurred after a series of meetings between diplomats and leaders that cast doubt on the reliability of electronic voting machines. Brazilian authorities interpreted the visit as a possible attempt at political interference in the electoral process and decided to prevent the entry of both officials.

The controversy intensified after Flávio Bolsonaro claimed that the equipment used in the elections belonged to the Venezuelan company Smartmatic. The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) denied that assertion and explained that the voting machines were designed by technicians from the Brazilian Electoral Justice and manufactured under their direct supervision.
